I'm out of ideas. Do those errors affect the payments in any way?

Yes, they tell CBSubs a payment was made. If the user lets themselves redirect back then PDT is at least acting as a backup.

Are these notifications really necessary? Can I just turn them off from PayPal?

IPNs are necessary.
