I have recently downloaded the free version of CB to test if it will work for my web project. So far its fantastic and will definitely purchase at this stage.

First issue I've found is with the image uploading.

I can see from a blog post on 30 Sep 2016 that it would appear to have this functionality however i do not have the option to allow client resize or maintain aspect ratio for yes, with user cropping.

Is this function only available in the paid version or has it not been implemented yet?

It can't apply to all images globally as it has to be implemented on a per usage bases so you'll only find that in image fields parameters.
