How to extract the number of users in a published list to use it in a custom module?

I need to indicate a number of users on a home page in CB Content module to attract attention of users to the number of people searching the job (users check the appropriate box in their user profile -> appear in the published list according to this criteria). How to execute appropriate php or short cbcontent command? Thanks
