Encoding problems was created by Exclusif
Hey there. I've read and followed the instructions regarding encoding problems in the documentation, the problem still exist though. I get "?" where åäö should be. I did a backup of the database, changed the encoding to utf8 from latin1 where needed and restored it. It's not doing anything.

Do I have to completely reinstall the component, or what could be the deal?

Thanks.

Have you set the correct character encoding in the system tab? Which language you are using and what encoding on your site. Maybe the language file has not the correct encoding fro your site (may happen on Joomla 1.0 systems).

Yea i've set the encoding to utf-8 in the system tab. I'm using joomla 1.5, swedish language and utf-8.

I just found this line in the utf-8 swedish language file:

"Language file: Swedish (source file is Latin-1)"

Could this have anything to do with it? What source file is it refering to?

That means that the source file is ISO. The file you are using is UTF-8 and ok. Have you checked if you site template is ok and the browser uses UTF-8 to display the pages?

I found the problem! The language file itself was in ANSI format. I changed it to UTF-8 with Notepad++, and AFTER that I corrected the errors manually in the file.

Anywayz, thanks for your help. Fast answers and a great component, keep it up!

Regards.

The language file IS already in UTF-8 format. You have the wrong setting in the system tab, so the ISO file is used instead.
