If I use this character in a message, everything after it in the actual message gets lost.

The divider after my current message and everything below it still remains.

Maybe you can fix this in one of the next releases? =)

Some of my users love the ">.<"-Emoticon and get crazy when using it :D

The board has shortened the character.

Everything that might be HTML code will be stripped because of security reasons.

Okay, thats a reason.

But its not that good, that everything after this character gets lost, I mean, even if HTML-code would be in there, just stripping out the bracket should also do the job.

And it would be more painless for the writer who does not know about it ;)
