URL:s not showing as links

In the message that comes to a user when another user is sending a contact request, the URL:s doesn't show up as links.

This is what it looks like:
This message...nn(hook)url=http://www.example.com/index.php?option=com_comprofiler&task=userProfile&user=264&tab=1&Itemid=143]user(hook)/url(hook)
(hook)url=http://www.example/index.php?option=com_comprofiler&task=manageConnections&Itemid=143]Manage contacts(hook)/url(hook)n

How do I change them to links?

May I also ask what those "n" marked in bold are doing there?

I use UddeIM 2.0 and on Joomla 1.5.18
