How to show unread messages count beside Menu Name

I would like to know How to show unread messages count beside Menu Name?
I know that is possible, but I don't know how to do it. I'm sure that authors know

Display->Show counters

Thank you very much for the quick answer.
I meant show (3) in the menu item, where you write the name of the component not inside the component like you said Display/Show Counters

That is not possible without hacking Joomla core components.
