uddeIM 2.0 work in progress

This is the current changelog for uddeIM 2.0.

Don't ask for a release day. It is still in development. People who really need a function could try the trunk version on their own risk.

Following features are new 2.0:
===============================
1.) reCaptcha service added (see recaptcha.net/ for more information).
2.) Installer checks if folder "uddeimfiles" already exists before it tries
to create one.
3.) The sender's name in notification emails will also be base64 encrypted
when neccessary.
4.) uddeIM API is now stable and part of the package, so other components
can use it to send PMs with email notifications.
5.) New templates: default_ex and default_ex_pink.

6.) Import from JAM improved.
7.) Support for AlphaUserPoints added.

I'm thinking it was maybe better to put the uddeimfiles folder inside Joomla's images/ (like FireBoard/Kunena and CB already do for their attachments). That way one could access the files through Joomla's Media Manager as well, not to mention less permission issues when creating it.

Also, since you're changing the major version number to 2.0, may I suggest some more important changes:

- dropping support for J1.0
- UTF-8 language files only since J1.5 is UTF-8 only (potentially switch language files to native J1.5 format)
- invest some time in better install and upgrade support (handle upgrade MySQL queries, automatic upgrade instead of uninstall/install)

I will not drop J1.0 support. In contrast to Joomla dev I see a need to support J1.0 also in future. There are lots of web sites which are running J1.0 and cannot migrate to J1.5 (maybe they have paid for the development or other reasons). E.g. I have two sites running which cannot migrate to J1.5.

That is already on my todo list but in my opinion why spending lots of time in a fool proof SQL upgrade mechanism when an admin must only execute a very few SQL queries which takes a few secs?

That is a good idea. So people only have to move the folder to the new location (or maybe the installer).

I am sorry but this is not the way uddeIM works. uddeIM support 1:1 communication and not 1:n or n:1 like a guestbook etc.

Many reasons, and the benefits I think outweigh the little extra effort. For example, I was administering a site where I only had access to the Joomla backend, but not to phpMyAdmin, so I couldn't do SQL queries (Joomla SQL admin components don't work reliably). Also, you eliminate the weak link in the chain - humans are prone to making errors when making manual operations like this. And so on...
