I want to put module content on one group's page (just for that group).
Is there a way to make a menu item for that group and force the group instance to use that menu URL.
So, for example the generic url for a group is: .../groupjive/1-test-category/42-test-group-2
Could I force the group to use a menu url I create .../test-group-2

You'd need to setup custom URL rewrite rules either within your htaccess file or using a 3rd party extension. Currently I can't enforce menu specific Itemid without breaking other existing URLs causing a significant backwards compatibility problem so I don't have a solution beyond rewriting the URLs yourself.
