Hey,
I'm "scrumming" my community, meaning, I do not have a final draft of which field will be used in the end in the user profiles. The fields are developing over time while I get understand Community Bulder better. This led to an issue where I have added a new mandatory field to an existing tab, but now, all existing users cannot do updates anymore since this field is mandatory, cannot be empty - but is hidden for old profiles.
I found this FAQ article saying that this is "by design":
www.joomlapolis.com/faq/10121-new-tabs-and-fields-wont-show-up-in-old-profileshttps://www.joomlapolis.com/faq/10121-new-tabs-and-fields-wont-show-up-in-old-profiles
Considering that this article is at least 6 years old, I am wondering if this is still adesign limitation ar if there is a way now to fix the existing profiles to update them to the latest setup for profiles.

Regards,
Florian

but is hidden for old profiles.

Don't understand what you mean by this. Fields don't have visibility whether a user is new or not. They should have the field in profile edit just like any user should. Fields marked required, but not marked to display on profile edit won't validate either. Sorry, don't understand the problem you're having can you be more specific?

Hi Kyle,
Thanks for your swift reply.
Apologies for not describing the issue good enough...
I guess I need to sort out how to properly install CB before bugging you with issues that are most likely coming from a wrong setup.
Fell free to close/delete this thread.

Florian

When CB is installed for the first time it will synchronize your Joomla users to CB. From then on you should be using CB to manage your users, their fields, for login, and for registrations. So fields would be created and managed within CB > Field Management. On frontend you should replace your Joomla login modules with CBs and Joomla user component menu links to link to CB. Suggest giving the CB Primer Book, which you can download below, a read as it'll help get you started.
