RE: www.joomlapolis.com/forum/146-general/234468-userprofile-url-has-email-address?start=6

Is there any settings solution yet (it has been a few years now) to toggle ON/OFF showing [userID], or [fistname lastname] instead of [username] in public areas.
If for example one hovers on the user in a user list or search result, the username (if it is email address) is visible.
In addition, if I wish to send a private message to a user the after selecting a connection, the email address is also visible. There might be more instances that I have not yet discovered.

Looking forward to hearing from you if there has been a fix or will be soon!

Grtz

Name display throughout CB is done using the formatname field. You can edit that field in CB > Field Management and have it output whatever you like. Use the "Profile Value Layout" and "Userlist Value Layout" parameters under Parameters > Layout to customize it. For example set both to [name] to just always use name. Note that "Userlist Value Layout" typically should include the HTML to link to the users profile as well. We will review providing more options in the future since we just recently improved name format parameter we hope to provide a Custom option.

You won't be able to completely block output of username, but using email address for username is not a suggested approach to begin with. You can control what field username will fallback to within CB > Configuration > User Profile. You can even set it to randomly generate a username. It is not an option to simply have no username since Joomla depends on it.
