Filesize limitation on Gallery needs to be ignored for Admins/Moderators

4 years 8 months ago - 4 years 8 months ago #317119 by JagaTelesin
As title states - I cannot (either using the front-end or back-end), upload an image/file/etc that is larger than the settings limiting users on the front-end. Admins and Moderators should be exempted from these limits, so they can post larger official files or other content.

I'm currently setting up a System account so that it's gallery can be utilized for official images and files. Users have a limit of 2MB on images in their galleries, but we have some larger high-quality PNGs we'd like to put in the System account's gallery. To do this currently, I have to re-configure the settings for all users, do the uploads, then re-configure back to original settings. It's a royal PITA.

If there's another way around this, it would be good to know what it is.

Edit: in the meantime, we've changed the plan. We're using FTP to push larger files up to the server, and linking to them with the Gallery. Makes it a 2-step process which is a little less convenient, but it works for now.

Moderators are not exempt from validation rules. There are no plans to support allowing moderators to be exempt from validation rules. They are only exempt from access permission checks and create limit checks.

Apparently Super Users are also not exempt from validation rules, even on the back-end. Is that by design?

We're fine with FTPing larger files up into other directories and linking them, but it seems like the limitation on SUs on the back-end should be lifted for gallery uploads. Just my .02

Yes, no one is exempt from validation rules anywhere throughout CB. Moderators are only exempt from create access permissions or create limits (e.g. users can only upload 10 photos, but moderators can upload as many as they want).

This should never been an issue when it comes to photos. If client side resizing is enabled the photo should be resized to the sites limitations before uploading. Files, Music, and Videos have no such functionality though. Will review lifting the file size limitation for backend uploads, but frontend will never have validation exemptions like that as it would be too much risk.
