This topic is connected with this one: www.joomlapolis.com/forum/153-professional-member-support/235621-cb-connect-with-facebook-incorect-username-or-password

Like I said:

When a user tries to register or log in with CB Connect and Facebook the first time the button is clicked the site always goes to an error:

Incorrect username or password. Please try again.

but actually at this point the account in Joomla! is created, and then when a second time the button is clicked the log in is OK.

Most likely means you've something interrupting the registration process. Something acting on the before or after registration triggers configured in CB Auto Actions for example as CB Connect fires normal registration triggers. Could be a 3rd party Joomla User or System plugin. I am unable to confirm your issue and is working perfectly fine in my tests across 2 different installs.

I've found out that indeed we've had an action interrupting the registration process. It was a field action which was set to change the "username" onAfterUserRegistration to "[firstname][user_id]". With the trigger onAfterUserRegistration we've always got the error on the first click of the link to login or register with CB Connect.

We now changed the trigger to onAfterSaveUserRegistration and it works OK with the following problem:

The normal CB register is OK but the user gets an email with his email as the username (probably Username Fallback), but actually in the backend the username is "[firstname][user_id]".

We think we are not using the right trigger here.

Please advice?

Just keep using the onAfterUserRegistration trigger, but check that the Facebook ID field is empty in your actions conditions. If you've other providers in use also condition against their ID fields to ensure they're empty. onAfterSaveUserRegistration is fired at the very end of the registration process. This means after emails, etc.. have been sent.

Actually with your suggested condition the onAfterUserRegistration is better, I think. lol
