[#3537] Character Limit in Text Area

[#3537] Character Limit in Text Area was created by marriage_minded_man
Ive looked in the guide and searched the forum. Sorry if I missed it but....
I have a text area, and I can limit the number of characters using Max Length:, but it allows the user to input way more. They only find out when they hit the update button that the characters are too long. How is someone supposed to know how many characters they inputted, surely they arent gonna count them. How do I stop them from inputting more characters.

Also, I dont understand what the Size: field is? Tested it on textarea but makes no difference in appearance or function. Whats it supposed to do?

Size is a generic parameter applied to all fields. It doesn't do anything for textareas though. You adjust textarea size using the Cols and Rows fields directly below Max Input.

Regarding the max length that seams to be a bug. It's not adding the maxlength attribute to the field so it allows you to input as much text as you want until save where PHP side protection kicks in. I've added the below bug ticket for further investigation.

Awesome. How will I know when it's been fixed and when I need to update my script? I'm a little new to this. Will my CB ADMIN Backend notify me somehow?

It'll be fixed in CB 1.8.1 (next release).

Will my CB ADMIN Backend notify me somehow?

No.
