Forgive me if I asked this before.

Is it possible to grant access to Google for content items that are subscription-only?

We run a news site and would like to lock down all archived items, but would like Google to be able to find them still.

Can that be done?

Only way to do this is provide Google bots with login credentials with an account that has unlimited access to the site. You can typically do this from your google webmaster account. Otherwise, no as google bots too would be blocked from the sites access.

Kyle:

Thank you! I did not know it was that easy!

We may be on board soon.

And we can exclude archived articles only, correct?

As long as their account you've created can't reach them, yes. Otherwise the bot will go through every link it can find.
