Integrating with phpBB3

I understand that CBsubs can be integrated with phpBB3.

Is it purely done by JFusion?

There is a thread showing how it can be done, but I find it way too complicated and confusing. Is there any simpler way?

No, that is how it's done as of thus far. It might be possible to be done easier in CBSubs 1.1 as you'll be able to perform CBSubs SQL Actions queries on external databases.
