The new backend settings won't be available unless you update to 2.10.0. I've tried different combinations of the new parameters with the existing frontend parameters for compatibility and found no issues though. It's possible you just have a caching problem. After updating to 2.10.0 try refreshing without cache (usually just Ctrl + F5). If issue persists I can take a look to see what's causing the styling issues if you PM backend login credentials (see link in my signature to PM me directly).
