Turning off "register" still allows someone to register

I am using Joomla 2.5 and CB 1.9 .
I have turned off the ability for someone to register on my site and it does not show for on the CB Login. However I have been getting some strange new "users", usually with unusual userids and email addresses.
I then discovered that if you enter a fake userid and password, you are presented with a new screen that tells you it is invalid - with this new panel having a "register" link that allows you to enter a registration.
Did I miss setting something up or have done something incorretly?
Please let me know as it is currently in beta and is easy to correct now - not so much later on when I hope to have many uers join.
(I plan on installing CB Subs and charge new members - this may alleviate the problem as I will also turn on Captcha as part of that registration process.)

OK, I was able to resolve the setting that was needed in order for the "register" to not display after an invalid signon attempt

Whereabouts was the setting you referred to please.

The two settings are :
1) CB Login module - right side -> "create account = HIDE"
2) Component CB menu - configuration - registration tab -> "Allow user registration = same as global registration"
