1st. When a user logs in thier name is not displayed as in "Hi, Susan", instead what is displayed is "Hi, [firstname].
The greeting is a simple yes/no parameter and it uses the formatname field and not the firstname field. I'm guessing you set that in "Logout Pre-text" or modified the template file. Specifically it's the below language string.

2nd. When a new user attempts to register by clicking the sign up button on the module, the following errors are received;
Ensure the Default template plugin within CB > Plugin Management is public and published. Next ensure CB Core is also public and published. If you migrated from CB 1.x it's possible their publish state and access may have migrated incorrectly.
