 No, the custom email address must be the same as what has been entered in the primary email field.

Then there's no point in the custom email field. Just turn on verify for the email field and it'll force them to enter email twice. This is done by editing the email field within CB > Field Management then under Parameters > Validation set "Verify field input" to "Enable".

Kylie, as stated twice previously I know that the primary email field has its own validation but I want the custom field to validate to the primary email field. The custom field must be the same email address as the primary.

Best I can suggest is to try CB Query field.

See these videos for help:

Hi Nant, as per earlier in this thread and suggested by Kylie and I have seen the videos and tried the statement that he suggested but it did not work:(

The statement I tried in the custom email field with CB Query was
SELECT `email` FROM `#__users` WHERE `cb_email` = '[value]'

so can you suggest the correct statement or do I give up on it?

Thanks for your patience guys.

There is no ajax validation functionality between your custom field and the primary email address field. The query validation like you're trying to do will only work if they're already registered. It will not work during registration as there's nothing to compare against yet (their user row doesn't exist yet). My suggestion doesn't work as I misunderstand what you were trying to do, sorry.

I'm completely confused still why you even need this. The primary email address field already exists and can already double verify. Why do you need a custom field to do exactly what the verify field is already doing? I think what you're trying to accomplish with the custom field needs to be addressed instead of trying to do this. Otherwise just turn on the verify validation for the primary email address and copy it to a new field using CB Auto Actions after registration as it accomplishes the same goal.
