Did you try with the official joomla templates.
I am asking because I made the experience (earlier) that the problem can be the template too.
If there's no problem with an official template, then you'll know, where's coming the problem and where you have to look for help. Please try and come back.

However, the template works in the front end!
The tab management is a matter of backend - right?
