The file I wanted to upload is .gif, 72x75

I assume this is a problem on your own site? Have other image uploads worked? Which version of Joomla and CB are you using? Does your /images/comprofiler folder have appropriate permissions to be writable (755, 775 or even 777)?

Folder permissions are 777
Actually uploading images works fine in CBE
