Need help getting started was created by jadame
Hello. I'm new to Community Builder, and new to Joomla in general, but I'm in a bit of a time crunch and hoping that someone could possibly point me in the right direction for what I want to accomplish.

I need a site where non-registered users (as well as registered users) will be able to browse all of the registered user's profiles. The profile pages will have to be something custom. They can all use the same template, perhaps, but it will have to be more than just some text with profile information. These profile pages will essentially be "personal pages" that the registered users could use on a business card, for example. It would be great if I could organize it so that the URL would be something like 'sitename.com/username/', or perhaps even use a subdomain like 'username.sitename.com'.

As far as the creation of these profile pages, it would be nice if I could give the registered users an interface to design their own, but that isn't really a requirement.

So, with all that said, is that something that I can accomplish with CB alone? Do I need additional CB extensions? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks...

CB allows creation of search-able userlists so your users can browser other users comfortably and search based off field values.

The profile pages will have to be something custom. They can all use the same template, perhaps, but it will have to be more than just some text with profile information.

There's no profile customization aside from filling out fields. A single template is selected and provided to all users. Optionally with a documentation subscriber you've access to our Incubator where you can use my plugin CB Template Changer which will allow users to switch their template to any of the published CB template plugins (you can create more or download more such as Coolness or MyCommunity).

These profile pages will essentially be "personal pages" that the registered users could use on a business card, for example. It would be great if I could organize it so that the URL would be something like 'sitename.com/username/', or perhaps even use a subdomain like 'username.sitename.com'.

SEF URLs are structured as www.example.com/menu-alias/username so could be www.example.com/profile/bob for example.

As far as the creation of these profile pages, it would be nice if I could give the registered users an interface to design their own, but that isn't really a requirement.

Sorry such a feature is not currently available. We've plans to add such capabilities using jQuery in a future release of CB (2.0 or possibly greater).

So, with all that said, is that something that I can accomplish with CB alone?

Would seam so. Seeing as CB is free and open source it's of really no risk aside from a waste of time if it is not to your liking.
