Drag&Drop profile customization was created by mikko
Hello

I did a small mockup of what drag and drop profile customization would look like. The funny thing is, that this kind of system would be relatively easy to code.

See www.mikkosoft.fi/layouttest.php for the concept.

The idea is that the user creates a basic HTML table using a javascript GUI, and then drags and drops tabs to the table cells. When the profile is saved, the content of the table (innerHTML) is sent to the server.

On the server side, the structure of the table is parsed and tab positions are saved in the database. This is pretty straight forward.

Anyone willing to help out in coding? I can take care of integrating with CB and the server side, but would need help on the javascript GUI. This could be either an open source plugin or commercial "joint venture".

Ok, first demo of dragroptab-plugin is now online at www.hondchan.dy.fi .

If someone is willing to help in coding this further, please let me know. I have currently no resources to finalize this alone, so unless I can find someone to help, this project will probably be leaved to the current conceptual demo-stage.

Especially, I am interested in talking with people who are good in UI design and cross browser compatible javascript. (Also sponsors who can fund development are welcome.) Currently there is no need for testers, as the code is still way to immature to be released.

The demo has been tested with firefox and it is probably the only browser which works.

Wow what a cool concept. Wish I could help but I'm just a code hacker...

Check out my Joomla/CB projects:

* LIKE thumbs up system for "liking" content items
* Karma - CB user rating system
* Golf Score Tracker
* Jitter - status update system. "What's on your mind?"
* CB Author Plug - Shows CB author link and avatar in content items. J1.5 compatible and very customizable!

Found on my web site or in the Joomlapolis Directory !

I might have the time to help in some capacity. I'm starting to find my limits to the current template setup.

In terms of the GUI: might Mootools be a better choice for drag/drop and tabs instead of requiring another JavaScript library implementation? If not, the JavaScript functions would probably need to employ a much clearer namespace than the ones in your POC (like Dojo or JQuery) to keep conflicts to a minimum (which drive me nuts) In terms of licensing, Mootools I believe is LGPL.

Thanks for the tip about mootools. Seems to be an excellent tool for this purpose.

I will make a new demo with mootools some time in the future. Also, I was thinking about making the system so that the user cannot define the position template, but must select one of the position templates defined by the administrator and place tabs in these. Much easier for the end user and lighter in terms of JS code.
