Hi folks
I've just created a new profile URL plugin. Now i'm sure many people already know that CB supports profile URLs with a simple edit to the htaccess file, but this plugin is quite different. It basically just uses htaccess or Windows IIS to handle error 404 so that it points to a particular file in the plugin. Instructions are in my forums.
- Allows users to edit their profile URL
- Allows admin to ban certain names to be used
- Works for Windows IIS users
- Editing of profile URL by users is done in AJAX, so changes are made real time
- The only issue is that it redirects to the real profile url eventually, but changes made in htaccess should be able to address this.
I made this primarily because I need to allow my users to be able to edit their profile names (like friendster!). If some htaccess expert can come up with a way to retain the URL in the browser, that'll be super cool!
