I have forgotten how to disable the admin approval requirement when someone adds their profile and canvas image.

Can I be pointed to where I turn this setting off to allow people to freely upload without having to wait for approval?

You can globally turn it off within CB > Configuration > Moderation by setting "Require Upload Image Approval" to "No" or per image field by editing them in CB > Field Management and under Parameters > Image Limits set "Upload Approval" to " No".
