Thanks -  I wasn't aware of the language plug-ins for CBSubs. I installed the CBSubs USA plugin and made the override

Appears the override in the CB Subs en-US plug-in isn't working.
I located this key:  S_FOR_THE_FIRST_S_THEN_S_EACH_S_e14b54
and saved this override:   %s for the first %s, then auto-renew for %s each %s

It didn't change the button text on the Stripe payment gateway.

Am I missing some activation of the CBSubs language? 
The plug-in is installed and published.
I don't see anywhere in CBSubs Settings where a default language is specified.

You need to use the language plugin that matches your sites language. Is the language on your site en-US or en-GB?

That was the key - I was still using en-GB as the site language...
