Do I have to wait for UddeIM 2.9?

I used UddeIM with CB and Kunena before, and it actualy worked very well.
However, I found UddeIM very timeconsuming to upgrade, each time a new version came out. (that was a few years ago), so I gave it up and told my users, that you could use normal email if they wanted to contact each other.

However, I see that things seems to have changed to the better. With UddeIM 2.9 we will get the option to use the Joomla! Upgrade functionality. Great improvement!

So, should I wait for UddeIM 2.9 to be released, or should I implement the current 2.8?
I fear that the upgrade from 2.8 to 2.9 is as time time consuming as it was before.
I don't mind upgrading by simply installing the newest ZIP using the Joomla Installer, if that will be possible.

The reason I ask is that I assume that with all that activity that has been going on with UddeIM in "my absence", it could be that the upgrade functionality had impreved, so that I don't have to read through lengthy instructions and amend files before it will work.

I should be possible to upgrade uddeIM 2.8 to 2.9 with the build in Joomla functionality.

But maybe you should wait because I plan to release uddeIM 2.9 in two weeks.

When you upgrade using the Joomla updater the configuration file will be overwritten, so use the internal backup/restore function to save your configuration.

So, with 2.9, the upgrade to 3.0 will NOT overwrite the config file?

The update will always overwrite the config file, that is why uddeIM has a built-in backup/restore function in the backend.

In that case I might as well install 2.8 right away

I am upgrading from 2.8 on Joomla 1.5.26 to 3.1 on Joomla 3.1 - i am planning to:

1. Install a clean Joomla 3.1
2. Install a clean Uddeim 3.1
3. Do database migration from 1.5 to 3.14. Then add the config backup file to uddeim and do a config restore

Question: Where is the backup file stored please so I can uplift it to the new site?
