Problem with FTP layer in 1.9 was created by RCheesley
Hi all,

I have read the FAQ and the FTP layer has been functioning fine for all extensions, however when I upgraded from 1.7 to 1.9, I now can't edit my configuration (even when I chmod the file to 777).

It also had trouble creating the /uddeimfiles folder which I created manually according to the Readme file information.

I also ran the SQL query as instructed, so as far as I'm aware, I've followed all the instructions!

The FTP layer has always been enabled on the site, and I've never had a problem with it before now - so I'm assuming it's linked to the 1.9 upgrade :)

Let me guess:

The com_uddeim folder is not owned by the ftp user, so when the ftp layer is enabled uddeIM has no access to that folder. Ensure that the folder has 0777 rights and also the configuration file.

Good guess. Already tried that (766 and 777 on com_uddeim) and it's still saying

* JFTP::login: Unable to login
* JFTP::login: Unable to login

I don't get this with any other extensions, just for information :)

Your login information is not valid, so check your Joomla configuration.

As I said before, this has not been a problem with any other extensions, and the ftp layer was set up during installation using the auto-find feature to ensure that the details were correct.

Should this issue be a problem with the login information, surely I would not be able to install extensions without error messages (I am on a Linux server) whereas this is not the case - I have never once received an error regarding the FTP layer (before upgrading to 1.9) and have installed a few extensions today with no error.

Seems a bit weird to have all this hassle for one extension when all the other ones work fine :|

Perhaps I am missing something here?

Which other components do you use which use the ftp layer to create a folders and/or files?

The ftp layer is one of the worst inventions in Joomla 1.5. Usually everything should work fine when all rights have been set correctly. Maybe I will add a fall-back to non-ftp mode when the ftp mode fails.

The problem is: When you get a "JFTP::login: Unable to login" without any error from uddeIM then this error has not been returned to uddeIM and no error handling can be done.

Without more information I cannot do anything for you. To check what was going on I need an admin login and explorer access to add some debug info to uddeIM files.
