How can I disable or hide the option for users to choose a "Type" for their connections? In CB Configuration--> Connections I tried leaving the Connection Types box blank, but it still leaves the Type column and an empty white box on the Manage Connections screen.

You can't, there's no functionality at this time for completely disabling connection types. Best I can suggest is set the connection types input in CB > Configuration > Connections to empty then try to use CSS to hide its column in connections management. Have added a feature ticket to suppress connection types usage if no connection types are available.
