$live_site= variable

We're trying to work through an issue with anything-digital regarding sh404sef and they are advising that we set the $live_site=''; variable. Here is their advise:

Also please go to your joomla root directory open the configuration.php file and set your $live_site=''; variable.

It should be something like: $live_site=' www.your-website.com ';

But I think we have it un-set because of some issue with CB. Is that right?

OK - we did some testing and set the live site variable to $live_site=' www.your-website.com '; and now the CB login module will not switch to https upon front-end login. We are using the CB login module setting "use https for posting login, then same" for switching to https when people are logged into the site.

I think there may be other CB conflicts that we have not yet found when this variable is set.

Never set $live_site unless URL guessing is failing in Joomla (nearly all cases it does not). The $live_site forces the Joomla API to output that exact URL. This means if an extension uses the API and you're on an HTTPS page, but you specified HTTP then it will use HTTP as it's what you specified. CB will not ignore the API and force a scheme (we use JURI::base() for J1.5 and greater).
