I have 3 fields that need to be concatenated to form a 'composite' (read-only) entry.
I've been able to create that with a CODE type; however, my client would prefer to have the concatenation happen in 'real-time', so that as a user enters anything into the first (or other) field, the result of the concatenation displays automatically.
Is there any way to do that with just CB fields and settings?
Or would that require custom javascript code?

That's not doable at this time without a custom fieldtype to do specifically that or a plugin to extend fields with such usage. CB Core Fields Ajax will eventually be taking on the responsibility of the Update On code used in Query/Code fieldtypes then extending it to work with all fields so you'd be able to ajax update any fieldtype in profile edit or registration based off another field changing.
